Swiss Healthcare Costs Top National Concerns Poll

Healthcare costs have emerged as the paramount concern for Swiss residents in 2024, according to the latest UBS Worry Barometer survey. The study reveals that 48% of the population considers healthcare policy a major concern, marking a significant increase from 40% in the previous year. The announcement of a 6% rise in health insurance premiums for 2025 has further intensified public anxiety over healthcare affordability.

While healthcare dominates public concern, environmental issues and pension security follow as significant worries for the Swiss population. The survey indicates that 32% of respondents express concern about climate-related issues, though this represents a decrease from previous years. Pension security remains a consistent worry for 29% of the population, reflecting ongoing debates about the sustainability of the Swiss pension system.

The housing market has emerged as a growing concern, with 25% of respondents worried about rising rents - the most significant increase in this year's survey. Notably, unemployment, which dominated concerns in the 2010s, has receded to just 5% of responses. Immigration and refugee issues have gained prominence in public discourse, particularly in relation to European affairs.

The survey reveals a shifting perspective on Switzerland's international position, with 51% of respondents expressing concern about global geopolitical developments. A striking 76% of Swiss citizens believe their country should adopt a more assertive approach in international relations, moving away from its traditionally defensive stance. Despite these concerns, most Swiss remain confident in their nation's ability to adapt to global challenges.
