Switzerland Boosts Global Humanitarian Aid

In a significant move to address growing global humanitarian challenges, Switzerland has announced a substantial allocation of CHF250 million to major international humanitarian organizations. This commitment, spanning 2025-2026, demonstrates Switzerland's continued dedication to international humanitarian assistance and its role as a key player in global aid efforts.

The CHF250 million aid package has been strategically distributed among three major humanitarian organizations. The World Food Programme (WFP) will receive CHF73.4 million to support its operations in over 40 countries facing serious emergencies. The UNHCR has been allocated CHF64 million to address unprecedented forced displacements globally. The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) will receive the largest share at CHF112 million, supplemented by an annual CHF80 million for its Geneva headquarters operations.

This substantial funding commitment reinforces Geneva's position as a global humanitarian hub. With both the ICRC and UNHCR headquartered in Geneva, the allocation sends a strong signal supporting International Geneva's crucial role in Swiss foreign policy. The funding ensures these organizations can maintain their operational capacity while strengthening Switzerland's position as a key facilitator of international humanitarian action.
