Swiss National Among Injured in Lisbon Funicular Accident

A devastating accident involving the historic Glória funicular railway in Lisbon has resulted in 17 fatalities and 21 injuries. Among the 21 injured passengers, Swiss authorities have confirmed that one Swiss national was involved in the accident. The accident has affected citizens from multiple nations, with eleven foreigners among the injured. The diverse list of nationalities reflects Lisbon's status as a major tourist destination. Authorities have announced that the nationalities of the deceased will be revealed at a later stage, following proper notification of next of kin.

Swiss President Karin Keller-Sutter has promptly responded to the tragedy, expressing Switzerland's "deepest sympathy" to the Portuguese people. In a message shared on social media platform X, she emphasized that "Switzerland's thoughts are with the victims and their loved ones affected by the tragic derailment of the Glória funicular railway in Lisbon."
