Strong Bise winds have severely impacted operations at Zurich Airport, Switzerland's primary international aviation hub. The cold, dry northeasterly winds, a characteristic weather phenomenon in Switzerland, have forced the airport authorities to implement significant operational changes. The weather event, which began affecting flights early Friday morning, has resulted in numerous delays and cancellations, disrupting both domestic and international air travel.

In response to the challenging weather conditions, Zurich Airport implemented its northern concept operational protocol around 9:00 AM. This strategic adjustment involves specific runway configurations, with aircraft landing from the north on runway 14 and departures taking off to the east on runway 10. The measure, confirmed by an airport spokeswoman, is designed to maintain safe operations during strong wind conditions while minimizing disruptions to the extent possible.

By early afternoon, 18 SWISS flights had been cancelled, affecting multiple European routes. The cancellations include both outbound and return flights to major destinations including Brussels, Nice, Düsseldorf, Berlin, Stuttgart, Hanover, Bologna, London Heathrow, and Frankfurt. Each route saw the cancellation of one outbound and one return flight, indicating widespread network disruption.
