Museum Studio and Fribourg Group enter exclusive talks to purchase the 14-hectare Chaplin's World museum in Corsier-sur-Vevey, signaling major changes for the Swiss cultural landmark.

"Museum Studio intends to strengthen the international reputation of this unique venue, in keeping with the creative genius of Charlie Chaplin"
"Museum Studio's ambition is to design immersive exhibitions based on the major themes and universal sentiments dear to Chaplin, which will travel and spread throughout the world"
In a significant development for Switzerland's cultural landscape, the iconic Chaplin's World museum in Corsier-sur-Vevey is set to be acquired by French entertainment firm Museum Studio and Fribourg Group. The proposed acquisition encompasses the entire 14-hectare estate, including the museum's operating company and associated intellectual property rights. This landmark deal marks a new chapter for one of Switzerland's most prestigious cultural institutions.
Museum Studio, a division of the historic Paris-based Compagnie Chargeurs Invest (founded in 1872), brings significant expertise in cultural engineering and museum production. The company has established itself as a world leader in creating immersive experiences for museums, brands, and foundations. The Fribourg Group, an Alsace-based family enterprise, holds a controlling stake of nearly 70% in Compagnie Chargeurs Invest, ensuring strong financial backing for the museum's future development.
The comprehensive acquisition package includes the scenographic rights and associated rights from founders Philippe Meylan and Yves Durand, along with the operating company currently held by By Grévin, a Compagnie des Alpes subsidiary. The transaction will see Museum Studio taking control of operating rights while Compagnie Chargeurs Invest's controlling shareholder will acquire the real estate infrastructure. The museum, which spans an impressive 4,000 square meters of exhibition space, will continue to operate under a regulated agreement framework.
The new ownership has outlined ambitious plans to enhance the museum's global presence while preserving its cultural significance. Key initiatives include enriching visitor experiences, integrating the museum's programming with major cultural events on the Vaud Riviera, and developing new educational initiatives. A significant focus will be placed on creating traveling immersive exhibitions that showcase Chaplin's universal themes and sentiments to audiences worldwide, thereby extending the museum's international reach and impact.
Opened in 2016 at the historic Manoir du Ban, where Charlie Chaplin spent his final 25 years, the museum represents a vital piece of both Swiss and global cultural heritage. The new ownership has committed to maintaining the site's historical integrity while enhancing its cultural significance. The museum's current features, including its film studio, reconstructed sets, wax figures, and archived materials, will be preserved and enhanced under the new management, ensuring the continuation of Chaplin's legacy in its Swiss home.
