Basel archaeologists uncover rare medieval heating system
A medieval hot-air heating system discovered beneath the former Gnadental monastery in Basel is being described as a unique Swiss archaeological find. Dating from the 13th or 14th century, the stone-lined system used a firebox and underground chamber to circulate warm air into the building above.
